Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to the OFP are first reviewed by the ACOFP's editor in chief. Submissions are then reviewed by three peer reviewers, two from the ACOFP editorial committee and one with a relevant specialty to the manuscripts.

The OFP usually notifies authors of manuscript acceptance, revision requests, or rejection within 3 months of acknowledging receipt of manuscripts. Authors are encouraged to contact the OFP if they have not received a status update in that period.

As a means of maintaining editorial and other quality standards, all accepted manuscripts are subject to editing and abridgment. Such editing takes place after manuscripts undergo peer review and author revision. During this editing process, the OFP's staff editors revise all accepted manuscripts for clarity, organization, grammar, conformity to house style and format, and adherence to ACOFP-preferred terminology, nomenclature, and spelling. As noted under "Manuscript Submission," failure to provide copies of referenced material upon request may result in delayed publication.

Qualifications to become a member of the OFP Peer Reviewer Panel.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified senior medical professionals to be included in the OFP Peer Review Board. You should be

  • Able to critically evaluate others academic work.

Members of the Peer Review Board peer review submitted articles in their areas of expertise, suggest topics to be covered and provide ongoing advice to the editors.

Final decision about the acceptance and refusal of the article for the publication will be taken by editors. No person, including editors, will be involved in the peer review of an article in which they have a direct or indirect interest or involvement.

Terms of service on the OFP Peer Reviewer Panel are two years and there are two positions available per specialty area.

The peer review board will be reviewed annually. It is projected that a Peer Reviewer may review up to  3-4 papers in a year.
